The Weight of Now

I drank too much, it dimmed the light,

Yet something in me knew it right.

A moment’s slip, a tender ache,

A yearning heart that had to break.

I miss the past, its steady ground,

The love, the peace, the soft surround.

But maybe now, it’s time to see,

The present holds what’s yet to be.

I rise and fall, I lose my way,

But still, I show up every day.

And though the pain won’t fade on cue,

There’s strength in asking, Why are you?
