Blind Belief

We live in a strange and curious age,

Where billionaires take centre stage.

Where friends and kin all speak with flair,

Of food and health as if they care.

They preach with zeal what we should eat,

What’s safe, what’s good, what counts as cheat.

Yet most are sick or plagued by weight,

While claiming they know what’s on our plate.

Conviction spills from every side,

With truths they’ve never once applied.

It’s harder now to feel aligned,

With those who claim to be so kind.

They talk of warming, fear and blame,

Convinced the system plays a game.

The government, a shadowed beast,

Out to devour, deceive, and feast.

But no one looks within their soul,

To check if they lost self-control.

They shout of facts they’ve never read,

And follow thoughts someone else has said.

The pigs and cows, the daily pain,

Ignored while people chase their gain.

Because eggs and yoghurt, so we’re told,

Are food worth more than hearts grown cold.

We live in times where ego speaks,

In every post, in every tweet.

And I, alone, begin to feel,

That none of this can quite be real.
